What or Who is Endangering Bees?

Threats Endangering Bees

Varroa mites

Pesticides & Exterminators

Varroa mites live on honey bees. These small parasites suck bee blood and fat stores. This weakens bees and hurts their immunity. Varroa mites also spread Deformed Wing Virus, which kills bees.

Pesticides kill bees directly or weaken them slowly. Honey bees suffer most from bug killers. Trained pest experts use special methods to protect bees. Responsible operators treat honey bees as helpful insects, not pests to kill.

Why Bees Dying Matters

If we fail to protect bees, food production will fail as well. Bees pollinate 75% of the main food crops. These include apples, almonds, blueberries, and many fruits, seeds, and nuts. One decade of bee drop costs farms billions of dollars each year. Without pollination, plants make no fruit or seeds. Pollination puts most of the food on our dinner table. It provides animals with food to eat. Birds get seeds to nest. The food chains get enough sustenance to live. No bee pollination means prices for foods like chocolate jump drastically.
